  • Standard Kit comes with Rack, Connector Kit, and Back plate.
  • "Standard Kit + Harness" model includes all the same + the harness.
The GTR 200 panel mount comm radio for experimental and light sport aircraft that offers a slim design and powerful features, including advanced auto-squelch, 3D audio, stereo intercom, stereo music input, alert inputs, best-in-class standby frequency monitoring, on-screen frequency identification, and much more.

The GTR 200 is the first to integrate advanced audio panel features like a two place auto-squelch stereo intercom, which senses the amount of sound in the cockpit and automatically adjusts the mic squelch for effortless intercom use regardless of the cockpit noise level. With 3D audio, the GTR 200 makes it easy to discern between the active and monitored standby frequencies as well as the other passengers. The radio’s best-in-class standby monitor is enhanced with patent-pending digital processing, so it seems as though there are two radios in one.

With its advanced integration with the Garmin G3X glass flight display, or other compatible Garmin portable products, the GTR 200 is able to receive a frequency and identifier in the comm’s standby position directly from the G3X’s waypoint page, allowing the pilot to ensure accurate transfer and reduce workload.

This same integration, automatically, and without the need for a database, displays the airport identifier and type on the GTR 200, like “KOSH ATIS” should the pilot manually tune the frequency. And further, these compatible Garmin portable products, constantly stream the flight plan and nearest airports to the GTR 200 for quick access and retrieval of any airport frequency with a single push of the knob.

Accessing these features on the GTR 200 is extremely easy and intuitive, with a sunlight readable display and built-in shortcuts including configurable soft keys to help reduce cockpit workload (for example, configuring one-touch access to music mute or pilot isolate). Optionally installed switches, typically on the flight controls, allow pilots to keep their hands on the controls while performing functions like swapping active and standby frequencies. And for easy retrieval of the most commonly used frequencies, the GTR 200 stores up to 20 pilot-defined frequencies as well as the 20 most recent frequencies used for easy retrieval. The radios are easy to install, with a standard density 37 pin connector and they support both 14 and 28 volt aircraft and offer 25 kHz channel spacing.

GARMIN GTR 200 COM RADIO 10 WATT 25 KHZ SPACING NON TSO

January 12, 2022

I ordered this to replace a 14 year old Garmin SL40 that was functioning as Com 2 but had fading reception and an inop volume control. The only connections the GTR200 needed were the external antenna, power, ground, and five wires going to the audio panel. Fabricating a new wiring harness was made relatively simple by the fact that during the original build, I had positioned in-line connectors (DB9 or DB25 computer connectors, to be exact) in between all avionics in the stack and all other units. So it was only necessary to terminate the new wiring in a DB9 connector that matched the pinouts of the original wiring. A bonus of having the new unit is that it has a 10 watt transmitter vs. 8 watts for the old one, and a much more informative digital display e.g., when monitoring two frequencies at once, it shows which one is receiving a transmission at the moment. A minor annoyance was that Garmin radio trays apparently now are just a smidge wider than they used to be. The standard 6.25 inch width has now become 6.30” – just enough that new trays won’t slide easily into stacks of older radios without some creativity with a flat file to make the opening a bit wider. Luckily the height of the GTR200 is the same as the SL40 (even though the Garmin specs say it isn’t!) so neither the GNS480 navigator above the radio or the GTX330ES transponder below it had to be moved. Oh, and the new unit works great. : )

Garmin 200 is great radio. I got the harness with the jacks. The harness is absolute jewelry. Every wire labeled, everything professionally wired. You won’t get a better harness and you won’t find any shop that can do it cheaper.

I have purchased and installed three of these units in different aircraft and I absolutely love them. Be sure and buy the harness from aircraft Spruce and you will not be disappointed. All the wires are clearly labeled and very easy to install probably only takes me 30 minutes to install one now.

Gamin logic, Garmin build quality (though actually in Thailand). I ordered mine with the made up 4ft harness with headphone jacks. This was a replacement radio for an MGL Transceiver. Total install time in a Sonex to remove old radio and harness, alter panel, fabricate a holder for the tray, install and wire in new harness - 8 hours. Including audio interfaces. Did not interface with EFIS data but did interface with EFIS audio alerts. (would have added about another hour to wire the data - but the EFIS may not remain in the aircraft long so....). Would have been many hours longer if I had made my own harness. Harness worth the extra $$ Installation manual is emailed to you by Aircraft Spruce after verified purchase. Configuration time after install - about 30 mins to run through it and make your choices. In service - people hear me fine, the radio proved much more sensitive on my existing antenna - leading me to believe that other brand was OK - but had not been doing me any favors. 3D setup is a nice touch. Intercom is stereo. For $$ - better featured than the other brand for slightly less $$ Penalty is weight. About 1lb heavier once installed. Ill take the 1lb for the added features and sensitivity. Sound quality of interface to a Gamin VIRB camera using the VIRB Audio jack adapter - excellent. If you are a builder/comfortable doing wiring - this install is quite straightforward (again - the pre-made harness is a huge help). The only bit you probably need outside assistance with is the output test - I had to borrow equipment for that. Would definitely buy again.

Newly installed, but thumb up to ACS for their easy offering of the unit with a prebuilt harness! I had this in and testing in almost no time, and that included cleaning up some existing wiring! Hangar neighbor listening on a handheld said it sounded great!

Great Com Radio especially for the PRICE. Get it with the harness unless you are going to remote your head phones more than 3 away, a huge time saver and very high quality.

Bruce
March 24, 2017

This is a great radio. I installed it stand alone with the intercom function, and gps data inputs, leaving the existing TSOd equipment wired through the audio panel. The radio is ready to use immediately when turned on, as opposed to certain modern gps/coms. I find that I use this radio exclusively for comms. If I need to ID a navaid, I just listen to the speaker output from the audio panel and associated nav. In the event I ever need a backup radio I can use the hand mike and speaker, or move my headset plugs to the original jacks. It is installed in a CAR3 airplane. From the specs, it meets the TSO for stuck mike, which is important. There is no documentation regarding the software compliance for the radio, and that may be an issue to somebody. There is also no MTBF documentation or statements relating to it.

My main radio is GTR 200. I am replacing my back up radio with a new GTR 200. I love the radio,. My main one has worked well the past three years so I am comfortable adding a second. It arrived in Aircraft spruce packaging not Garmin, the only reason I gave it 4 star instead of 5.

Robert M
September 23, 2019

I love the features of this radio. The reliability not so much. The radio quit after three years. It wouldnt transmit. I did the diagnosis myself with the COM Test Page. It cost $1000 and they sent me a refurbished unit. It is giving me intermittent problems again. It is just over the one year warrantee on the replacement. Good grief. Im not very happy and thinking of just purchasing a new unit for $1600 rather than pay another $1000 for a refurbished unit.

Murray M
October 12, 2018

GTR 200 features are innovative and progressive specifically 3 D features. Transmission appears to be good. However, reception is poor. Hand-held five (5) Watts radio reception easily out performs the GTR 200 reception.

Sean
September 6, 2016

this radio will not integrate with 2 radio panel making the built in intercom useless.

Q: Can the GTR 200 radio fit into a SL 40 slot?

No, the GTR 200 is not a direct replacement for the SL 40 as it requires a new installation.

Q: What are the dimensions of the Garmin GTR 200?

Total product footprint is 1.35” tall by 6.25” wide. Has only a 9.4” behind-the-panel depth including connectors (8” without connectors), 1.34 lbs (1.91 lbs. with rack and connectors).

Q: Will the GTR 200 interface with other EFIS units like the GRT Sport SX as the SL-40 did to allow the EFIS to place a comm frequency in the standby of the GTR 200

Yes, Garmin still allows this feature in the GTR 200.

Q: Is the Garmin GTR 200 compatible with Dynon Skyview?

The Garmin GTR 200 can be used as the com radio for a Skyview system but does not connect to the Skyview to show com frequencies on the Skyview display.

Q: Does the GTR 200 fit the King 97 rack?

No, it will not fit as you will have to do a new installation with the GTR 200.

Q: Will the GTR 200 fit the slot left by removing a Narco 810 radio?

No, this will not side into the Narco 810. Also note the GTR 200 is not a certified radio and is intended for experimental aircraft only.

Q: I did not see the music input on the face of the Garmin GTR 200. Is it a standard input 3.5mm jack? If so, where is it located?

There is not a 3.5mm jack on the unit as the music source is from the back of the unit and you attach the 3.5mm jack to it.

Q: Can I get data from my GPS Garmin Aera 500/695/795 using its Power/Data Cable into the GTR 200?

Yes, the date out line from the Aera will go to pin 24 on the GTR 200 (RS 232 In).

Q: Does the Garmin GTR 200 panel mount com radio mute the music audio input when an incoming radio transmission is received?

Per Garmin: Yes, it will.

Q: does the Garmin GTR 200 Comm come with a mounting tray?

The Garmin GTR 200 Panel mount Radio Standard Kit comes with Rack, Connector Kit, and Back plate. The Standard Kit + Harness" model includes all the same with the addition of the harness.

Q: What size circuit breaker should be ordered along with the GTR 200 Com Radio?

Per the installation manual: a 7.5A circuit breaker for a 14V aircraft or a 5A circuit breaker for a 28V aircraft.

Q: Does the GTR 200 interface with the MGL Challenger iEFIS?

Per MGL, yes it does.

Q: With only one GTR 200 in my panel is there is no need for an audio panel?

The GTR 200 has a great built in intercom. You would only need an audio panel if you would like to have 2 com radios to switch between the two.

Q: We need the 8.33 kHz spacing, is the GTR 200 a good choice?

No, the GTR 200 does not come with 8.33 spacing. If you would like a Garmin unit with 8.33 spacing see part number 11-11346 for the GTR 225A.

Q: I have a GRT Sport EFIS that has a single audio warning lead, should I hook it to the low or high audio in lead on the GTR 200?

Audio alerts are connected to the high on the GTR 200 audio. Please note that you may receive interference if you do not shield and ground this wire.
