Overview

NOTE: Thread size column lists pipe thread (NPT), not measured thread.

Quick opening brass drain valve for aircraft oil or fuel systems. A slight twist opens valve. No safety wire needed in closed position. FAA approved. TSO-C76 Approved.

Note: FAA Approval applies to fuel applications only. NOT FAA Approved for oil applications.

Curtis Superior Valve is experienced in valve design and can help solve your valve problems. In most cases a standard Curtis Superior Valve will do the job. Or possibly a slight modification of a production unit will answer a specific problem. We will be glad to give you any assistance you may require with your Quick Drain Valve application.

MAINTENANCE / CMM

Curtis Superior Valves are designed for installation in a standard NPT port for NPT threaded valves or an AND-10050 stlye port for UNF threaded valves. Use a sealant on NPT threaded valves or a fuel resistant o-ring of the proper size for UNF threaded valves. Refer to aircraft manufacturers torque specifications for the aircraft in which it is being used. Curtis Superior Valves require no special maintenance. Keep them reasonably clean and replace according to the prescribed synthetic rubber maintenance schedule for the aircraft in which they are used or 10 year usable life per Curtis Superior Valve whichever occurs first. Curtis Superior Valves cannot be OVERHAULED. Replace the entire valve per the maintenance schedule of the aircraft in which it is used or usable life per Curtis Superior Valve should it begin to leak.

OVERHAUL

Due to the low replacement cost of Curtis Quick Drain Valves versus the cost of replacement seals, breakage of seals in overhaul installations and labor costs, it is not recommended they be overhauled. Replace the entire valve in accordance with the instructions in MAINTENANCE above or should they begin to leak.

I wish they would give a thread outside diameter, I had to learn that the hard way. For example: a 1/8 NPT has a 3/8 outside thread diameter, 1/4 NPT has a 1/2 outside diameter, and a 3/8 NPT has a 5/8 outside diameter, and I assume 1/2 NPT has a 3/4 outside diameter.

Used these quality sump drains for many years. No complaints with the product, except, for the totally ridiculous high price that every retailer/wholesaler charges. Everybody has become jaded to the outrageous pricing for aviation related products. Its ridiculous.

No longer brass but now aluminum. First sign of resistance, probably because the threads were off, the valve distorted and could not be used. Pure waste of money but I did salvage the seal and used it on the old brass unit it was going to replace. Dont waste your money if you can find new seals.

Q: I have the port with 9/16-18 NPT thread. Which Curtis valve will fit: 3/8 or 1/4 thread?

|If you have measured your port and got 9/16", then the next closest size to this is 3/8" NPT.

Q: With the NPT, is any sealant or lube required on threads?

Nothing is required but you could use Ez Turn if you would like.

Q: Which 1/8 NPT valve would replace the SAF-187? Id like to be able to push to drain by hand rather than fuel cup probe.

You can use P/N# 05-01865 for the push type.

Q: Can I use CCA-1350 or 1300 as an Oil drain valve on my experimental aircraft?

These are for oil and fuel systems so if the thread is correct for your application you should be able to use it on an experimental aircraft.

Q: Which Curtis valve is appropriate for a PA28-161?

According to the Valve Application Data Guide PDF in the documents, the PA28-161 generally uses the CCA-1550 (Piper No. 492-022) valve.

Q: What is the difference between part CCA-1250 and part CCA-1550

CCA-1250 is spiral, twist open and CCA-1550 is push to open, turn to lock and conforms to NSN 2915-00-202-6420 when CCA-1250 does not.

Q: Do you sell the model CCA 1100?...i see it on Curtis Website
