Overview

Note: General rule for installation: Tach cable should be installed as straight as possible - the inner cable length will decrease 11/16" per 360 degrees of bends.

1. Select the proper length from the listing, but measure old tach cable to verify length in chart is correct for your aircraft, as tach cables can vary from aircraft to aircraft. Over-length cables can cause problems - order one that fits the installation.
2. Measure original cable from end of Ferrule to end of Ferrule when fully extended.
3. Inner tach cables are measured end to end.

Inner assemblies have male ends only. One end is squared and the other is keyed. Tach cable assemblies have 7/8-18 on one end and 5/8-18 on the other, female nuts only.

Note: Custom length tach and inner cables are available. Please contact sales for price and lead time of custom cable. You will be required to provide length and rotation. Additional information of aircraft, engine, make, model & dash number may be required.

Available in left and right lay rotation. Add -R to the part number for Right Lay.

1. To determine cable rotation, note the rotation direction of the tach drive socket on the engine while looking directly at the tach drive on the engine.
2. If the drive socket rotates clockwise, a right lay inner cable is required.
3. If the drive socket rotates counter-clockwise, a left lay inner cable is required.
4. The rotation direction of the tach needle does not affect which lay should be used.

This cable is captive on the engine side such that it will not put pressure on the tach input. Some tachs like the Mitchell, require a captive cable to keep pressure off the tach, this cable will satisfy that requirement.

I ordered this tach cable to replace the probably original cable that broke in my Mooney M20C. After reading some of the reviews I realized Id have to order a custom length. Based on the length of my old cable and the schematics of these cables I realized I was going to need an inner cable about 0.25 longer that what came stock. So I called Spruce and ordered a 29 cable housing with a 30.5 inner cable. I could have gone 30 and 31.5, but the 29 was an inch longer than my original already. It works great so far after several hours of operation. I think the issue with these cables some folks are having is that the engine end tang sticks out farther than on other cables, necessitating a longer core than what youd expect, it did on mine. The square drive end is fairly long so if you did order one longer than you needed you could trim it back with a dremmel.

The product is a 60 tach cable, but would not work for my piper Lance, the square end the goes into the tach has a bevel and so it doesnt easily fit into the sheath.

We were searching for a replacement cable for our Industrial Cummins diesel engine. We found this site and bought a longer (needed) cable. The driven end ( engine) is a little smaller but works and the holding cap on the tach end was too large but with a self made adapter, it works. I suspect the length issue others are having is due to turns in the cable installation.

Will not work for Mooney M20C in present form. Once cable is routed with two 90 degree turns needed to connect both ends, inner cable shortens and disengages tachometer drive.

The cable disappears when mounted in the airplane, as the housing interior clearance and takes up too much inner cable during turns. We have to use your new housing, and make up our replacement inner cable using bulk stock.

If you order a 48” tachometer assembly and break the inner. They don’t carry the inner on the shelf for a standard 48”. No, you have to special order and pay extra so they can make extra money. It’s highway robbery. You designed it to be this way so you can pocket more.I highly have a distaste for the business model. Cool for you to have you reviews on your website so you can edit.

Inner cable is too short. it might work if straight but that is not the case with many installations. They would be better off having a longer tach end available so you could trim to length after installation. Or maybe ask if it has bends before cutting.

New install on experimental. As others have stated this cable only works if straight. I had to order a custom inner cable 1/2 longer than supplied. They should sell the housing separate rather than as a complete assembly. I now have $100.00 in a tach cable and a useless inner cable.

When you order the inner cable according to the ordering diagram, it comes about and inch and a half short. A 60” inner cable is 60” from the top of the tang to the tip of the square, not as shown in the ordering diagram.

Yes, please use part number 10-03373 (TACH CABLE 192") which is a 16 ft tachometer cable.

Q: Looking at your web site for ordering tachometer cables your site says to look at the rotation direction of the tach drive while looking at the engine. My question is, looking at the engine from the front or rear? Which rotation is most common on Lycoming engines?

Per the manufacturer: Front or rear of the engine doesn't matter because you should be looking at the port in the engine itself where the tach cable will be inserted into the engine. That rotation is what we go off of and most Lycomings have a clockwise rotation which is right lay.

Q: Are these tachometer cables FAA TSOd?

No, these cables are not FAA Approved.
