PSA - (part #s) 936TL&B-12V or 936TL&B-24V Tail Light with Beacon (combination) assembly for replacement applications. This unit is self-contained, requires no external power supply or modifications for installation. Fits in the same foot print as your current Grimes or other incandescent tail light unit. Drawing less than .2 amps, you will save 2 amps in the circuit and gain a beacon to boot. No RFI, runs cooler and longer. Available in 12V & 24V. NON-PMA |
read earlier reviews and time will tell. but initially works as advertised. nice and bright and flash portion of bulb works which you can see almost 180 degrees, depending on the mount. my piper lance because the frame around the outside glass cover blocks a little, but more like 160 degrees. for the price nothing else comes close and comparing the position lite to the bottom original no comparison.
Im going on 3 months with this light and its still working great! I really like that it flashes while staying constantly on in the rear, adds a level of safety that no other product has. Some people complain about the flashing part being too far back int he socket to be visible, but at night its very visible. Cheap way to add safety. If this does burn out soon, Ill replace it with another.
looks to be more robust than the original, which is great. only 4 stars because the price is too high.... there is no reason that in this day and age a replacement LED should cost $80,..... ok old guy rant over
Metal top of lamp separated from metal bottom. Was a great lamp until it separated. Had to order another. Not warranted after more than 30 days.
When they say you gain a beacon its because the unit flashes on/off. Had I known this I would not have bought.
Sadly, this LED tail/beacon light only lasted 5 months in my plane.
PSA Pinecone LED Lamps - In a 2002 C172R, the red and green nav-lights are of the pine cone” design. These LEDs have worn out (unit lasted 13 months), LEDs have come loose due to vibration in all the units I tested (propeller aircraft have all kinds of harmonics and vibrational frequencies running through their fuselage - some more than others). From what I can tell the pine cone design has no structural support and the wafer’s are relying totally on the solder connections between them to hold them together. These various frequencies combined with a stacked moment is an invitation for something to fail if the right vibration frequency comes along. As for the tail (white) lamp, the LEDs closest to the base are too far back in the tail light socket and cannot be seen from the aft of the aircraft. The majority of the flux (light) emitted is from the top surface LEDs (right at the lens) and some light can been seen emitting from second wafer of LEDs. Any flux emitted from LEDs closest to the lamp-base are pretty much useless. Conclusion: Overall design needs more structural integrity and the circuitry is suspect. It’s a shame to know that the original $3.00 incandescent light bulb lasts longer than the $85 LED unit.

Per the supplier: The beacon feature of our P936-45-12VW lamp is automatically activated when the lamp comes on. You do not need another wire.
Per the supplier: 12 volt x Less than .2 amps = 2 watts
Per supplier: P/N# 11-12040, is a replacement lamp only. No wire involved.
Per the manufacturer: No, this bulb is made to fit the tail light in the tail cone. To replace the beacon on top of the tail you must use part number 11-07243.
Part number 11-12040 is not approved for certified aircraft as of 3/9/15. This part will not fit as a direct replacement for your 182, a new socket must be installed first.
No, the PSA tail light will not work as a position light. This light is designed to fit in the standard tail light assembly.
No, this unit is not FAA Approved and is intended for use in experimental aircraft only.
This is a white light. The beacon could have a red lens on it though.
Yes, it will.
