I’ve been wearing a Bluetooth watch for several years now and this one is amazing. If you’re not flying battery life is amazing, much less if you’re using the GPS. Durable? God yes! Forgot I had put it on the base of the windscreen while changing the oil and only after checking for leaks did I realize I had blown it 75 ft down the tarmac where it landed facedown. Thought it was a goner for sure. Not a thing wrong with it! My only negative is it’s so light that you forget you didn’t put it on after you charge it. Definitely a worthwhile purchase.

First smartwatch. Havent used nav features much yet, but all else works very well. Takes a little bit to understand navigating the watch, but becomes intuitive. Fitness features work great except the weight lifting app is arduous. Pulse ox works, but it is not great. More than happy with the product.

Hubby requested this watch for his birthday. He is very happy with it.

This is another quality product from Garmin. As for the watch design, I am pleased with the ratio of width to thickness -- I particularly appreciate how thin they made this version, especially in comparison to their other aviation watches. Its flat enough that youll barely note it on the wrist. I will also acknowledge that some reviewers have said it seemed a little cheap -- Im not sure I agree with that. With the leather band it carries itself well -- discreet and unassuming, but appealing to see on the wrist. I am also very pleased with Garmins quick-change band design -- better than Apples, it makes for ordering more bands and actually using them something you might consider on a daily basis depending on mission (eg flying day vs. a run vs. working in the shop). Theres a band for every use case. I give it a 4-star rating as someone who has lived with an Apple watch since its first edition. Having this watch replace it has meant some sacrifices. The Garmin apps on the watch seem smart enough, but the integration with the phone through the Garmin app itself is less complete, and of course you get none of the app integrations from apps you are used to using on your wrist if youre a Watch kind of person. I didnt think I used that many, until not having them on the D2 Air. Again, 4-stars to Garmin for getting their suite of apps mostly there, if youre willing to start leveraging the Garmin phone app more-fully. Finally, as for the aviation features of the watch, heres another place Im 4-star for now. I am not sure what I was expecting, but it was more than I see for aviation. I have been waiting for the indispensable aviation watch to complement my iPad & iPhone running ForeFlight. To me, the D2 Air would probably be ideal and a 5-star winner for a pilot who *only* uses Garmin Pilot as an app. I think here, the Garmin integration would be outstanding, and Id strongly recommend the D2 Air watch. For those of us using ForeFlight and living with the Apple Watch, perhaps we look at the D2 Air as a great way to have a full-time pulse oximeter when we fly, some cool aviation features, but beyond that, nothing that the combo of other devices I mentioned wont fill. Ive yet to find any watch that would let me leave (or have me want to leave) the iPhone or iPad behind on a flight, so for now, the benefits I see are really that the watch is attractive, fits well, has good viewing surface, and has a built-in pulse oximeter designed with pilots in mind. If youre on the fence, I think like me, youll be pleased with the decision to buy -- just be realistic about how much additional advantage you expect it to deliver beyond the devices upon which you already depend today. Its a quality product Im pleased to own, and look forward to wearing it every day.

Pilot cool factor is 5 stars, Pilot apps are really good too. Where the watch really lacks is the health stuff. The sleep tracking is weak (its no fitbit), the Sp02 Ox is at times very inaccurate compared to a medical grade Dedicated Pulse Ox overnight monitor. (talking 15+ points). I have a chest strap for very accuate fitness measuring and the Garmin pulse was off my as much as 40bpm at times.. wow. My wifes iWatch 6 was almost bang on accurate with both exercise pulse and Sp02 oX measurements compared to my dedicated Ox device. For the price should do it ALL well - needs refinement in the health area. Hard reset the D2, tried everything but could not resolve glitches.

Its no five star watch - its made of plastic, and totally not worth $500. If its the only watch you wear, you need to get another watch. You can only sync it with one device - either your iPhone or iPad. Assuming you have the D2 syncd with your iPhone, this means... if you own both a iPhone and an iPad with Garmin Pilot and you have a flight plan on your iPad, the only way to get it to the D2 watch is to send (wifi or cell) it to the Garmin cloud, and then download it to the iPhone using Garmin Pilot on the iPhone, then you still have to upload it to the watch from the Garmin Pilot (via Connext) on the iPhone. What a pain-in-the-ass. Assuming you got time to do this while sitting in a hot airplane on a tarmac in June in Florida! If you sync it with only your iPad (that doesnt have any cell service), you wont be able to use all the functions of the watch and youll have a very expensive Timex that does nothing but tell time. This was not though out very well. Garmin needs to get out of the watch business if they are not going integrate their devices to talk with each other. Dear Garmin, make a note - Call Apple!
