Reviews

I built a Cygnet from 1997 to 2000. It was my third aeroplane following construction of a Jim Maupin Carbon Dragon and a TEAM Minimax. I still have the Cygnet with nearly 1000 hours on it. At 750 hours I converted from my old trusty 1835 VW single vertex ignition and Bing CV32mm carb to a 2200 Jabiru. I can honestly say it is a fantastic plane to fly. It has positive stability in all axis and would have to be the easiest of any tail wheel aircraft to land. I had no problem flying two up with the VW motor and performance was as per the specifications. Performance with the Jabiru engine is an order of magnitude better cruise speed is more in excess of 90kts and ROC one up is close to 1000fpm. I also own and fly a Corby Starlet, & while the Cygnet does not have the manouverability of a close coupled aerobatic plane like the Corby, it is a great plane to fly. Building the Cygnet was easy. The wings, despite apparent complexity are actually quicker to build than traditional double strut braced wings. My Cygnet is still a cherished possession. I would caution builders: stick to the plans. My Cygnet empty weight is 245kg. I’ve flown other Cygnets much heavier and their performance despite bigger engines were not on a par with mine. Build light!
