Overview

Note: Standard baud rate is 9600. Baud rate can be adjusted to match your GPS unit. If you require the baud rate to be 4800 for a portable GPS unit, please use special instructions during checkout.

Take to the skies with confidence with the ELT 345. This emergency locator transmitter is equipped via NAV interface, so if you run into an emergency, search and rescue teams will be given your aircraft location in less than a minute, within 100 meters. In addition to providing position accuracy, the ELT 345 transmits on 406 MHz and 121.5 MHz frequencies. Like all our products, this ELT is built to surpass industry standards, and ensure you'll get the help you need. Be Prepared for the Unpredictable: - Manual and automatic activation - Two-wire remote switch - Flexible installation - Stainless steel mounting bracket - Built-in navigational interface

When an emergency happens, rely on the same brand that leading aircraft manufacturers trust for first-class quality, superior technology, and outstanding customer service. The new ARTEX ELT 345 is built to the industry’s most stringent quality management standards to ensure the ELT works the first time, every time. The ARTEX ELT 345 transmits on 406 MHz and 121.5 MHz frequencies while providing positon accuracy thanks to the built-in GPS navigational interface. GPS data is embedded within the first emergency transmission and provides Search and Rescue personnel with the aircraft location, within 100 meters, in less than a minute. The ELT 345 boasts an industry low price for an ELT providing the same quality and performance on which the ARTEX brand was built.

FAA TSO C126b approved.

Installation

  • The ARTEX ELT 345 can be activated manually (via cockpit remote switch or ELT switch) or automatically (the G-Switch senses a 2.3G or greater impact), and alerts the closest Search and Rescue agency of your emergency. The 406 MHz signal, containing your GPS coordinates, is transmitted to the Cospas-Sarsat satellites and relayed to the Mission Control Center where it is immediately routed to the nearest Search and Rescue agency. Your beacon’s registration will tell first responders who you are and the beacon itself lets them know where you are to within 100 meters. Finally, the local 121.5 MHz homing signal assists Search and Rescue forces to identify your exact location.

How it Works

  • The ARTEX ELT 345 provides a quick-and-easy retrofit opportunity with flexible installation options such as a two-wire remote switch that does not require any aircraft power. Because it is a single output ELT, the ELT 345 utilizes the same RF output and only one coax cable to transmit both 406 MHz and 121.5 MHz signals. The built-in navigational interface does not require aircraft power to operate which greatly reduces the cost of installation. The stainless steel mounting bracket has a multiple-hole pattern configuration which makes the replacement of legacy ARTEX ELTs or old ACK, Kannad and AmeriKing ELTs quick and easy.

  • Pair the ELT 345 with ARTEX’s exclusive online satellite confirmation testing system, 406Test.com, and get real-time beacon testing results, from the same satellites used by Search and Rescue, to ensure your ELT system is functioning properly. There is a reason that ARTEX ELTs are the choice of more aircraft manufacturers than any other; they trust ARTEX to build the highest quality products knowing they are used to save lives.

ARTEX ELT 345 406 USA WITH WHIP ANTENNA

Great inexpensive ELT with all the quality of the high end units. I replaced a very old ELT in my 1948 Navion A with the Artex ELT 345.

I love the ELT345s but I wish Artex would provide a DB connector for pins vs soldering. Users should absolutely be aware of the 50-second test period before the 406 signal goes active. One that 406 signal goes active, it could get real expensive if elicits a false alarm air search.

This is a high quality item and includes almost all the components youll need to install this ELT in your aircraft. For example, the antenna comes with its own coaxial cable and the D-sub connector comes with pins and a backshell housing. The only thing you need to supply is the tefzel wiring. One thing to be aware of with this unit is that it does not have an actual built-in GPS nav unit to give your position in case of emergency if you read the description carefully, youll see that it is ABLE to transmit a GPS signal, but that signal has to be provided by an outside source, like a panel-mount NAV GPS or a handheld unit. And you should make sure that you know what GPS you plan to use, as the signal output rate (Baud rate) needs to match with this unit. It can accept either Aviation Data format (9600 baud) or NMEA (4800 baud) and needs to be programmed into the ELT.

Easy install, unit came complete with pretty much everything needed. It tested ok. I hope I never need to find out if it works in a crash.

This ELT was a perfect replacement for my legacy ARTEX 121.5 in my PA-38 which had originally been relocated to the epanage from the center console by the previous owner . I had to order 12 ft of braided twisted pair milspec shielded wire to replace the existing wire in order to avoid any interference issues. The unit passed the testing and is up and running and the new whip antenna is just fine. All in all a great value!

We have installed many of these units! Very impressed with Artex and their development of this reasonably priced ELT for general aviation.

This is a replacement unit so I am in the process of installation. My impressions to date are that this is a solid product but there are a couple of things to be aware of: 1: the panel switch is significantly larger that my previous unit which means a panel modification not plug a play. 2: the unit comes with no wiring diagrams in the box you have to go to the web site an surf thru a 50 page document for the wiring diagram. 3: the antenna is atrocious there is no way I would put that on the exterior of my aircraft. Fortunately for me there is space under my Plex canopy that it will fit. 4: you need to be proficient in soldering din connectors.

Unit arrived within 24 hours . Installer needs to supply wire to remote switch. Old unit used phone wire but I had to replace with shielded aircraft wire as phone wire triggered ELT when connected. Price is right and unit appears to work.

This is a nice ELT at a good price with good features that I needed. The problem I have with the ELT is that it comes with a whip antenna that is practically impossible to mount on an RV8 due to the sliding canopy. There should be another option for an antenna other then the whip antenna such as a rubber ducky that could fit better but still transmit an emergency signal well.

I looked at the ACK-04, but decided against it because they use 3 different batteries that have to be replaced on a schedule (Main battery, battery for the tones, and another for the switch in the panel). For slightly more, this one has just one battery replaced every six years and is easy to install. The antenna is a draw back. It stands straight up and has fairly thick base. I wish they had swept it back like ACK did with theirs.

The product itself was what was ordered, but the antenna and cable were not included in the initial product received. When I contacted the sales order team, they were very helpful in taking down my information regarding this shipment. The antenna and cable did arrive in a follow on shipment from the delivery company later in the day. But the initial order information indicated that all would be sent in one shipment, there was no mention of a separate shipment (no extra expense involved on the shipment itself. It was just the aggravation of trying to answer the lead mechanic and Director of Maintenance regarding the location of the antenna and cable. Aside from this one incident, everything else has been excellent.

Slick website, a market leader in beacons, but not a company for home builders and the do it yourself crowd. If you need customer support after you buy this, well, good luck. Emails won’t be returned, you must call. Be prepared to be placed on hold, and if you are able to leave a message, don’t expect a return call. My questions for technical support were deflected to their default-return the device-which they did, but the ELT itself was not the problem. I knew that that, but alas, was unable to communicate that to them. I just struggled through and eventually figured it out without them. My impression is that is what they want you to do. Actually what Artex should do is sell only to avionics shops.

This unit failed without warning while parked in my hanger. I was working on another aircraft when the ELT started going off. I could hear it from the small remote speaker. It was not possible to turn the signal off without removing the battery. It was not possible to remove the battery without removing the unit from the airplane. This required me to remove the antenna while it was transmitting. This is never good for anything that transmits over an antenna. It happened late at night so their tech support wasnt available to help and the manual was not helpful either. On the positive side Artex replaced the unit with no questions asked, but no explanation given either. During the RMA return, I had to wrestle with the issue of whether to send back the lithium battery so it had to go back ground and after declaring it, the post office gouged me more than a few bucks because it was labeled hazmat. The new unit went in like the old unit. Ive flown 20 hours in my experimental varieze in the ARMED position with it and no problems to report so far. Issues aside, I am willing to purchase another one because of the low price-point, but I remain concerned about the long term operational reliability of the unit. An OFF switch that turns it off would be useful, the regulations restricting the addition of an off switch are wrong and should be changed (only has ARM, ON and TEST positions)

This unit is well priced and the a/p shop I use has had good experience with them. However, they failed to warn me how poor the antenna will look. Looks more at home on an school bus or motor-home than an aircraft. ARTEX makes an aircraft worthy antenna for their next higher cost models. They recommend getting the ARTEX 1000 model that comes with the antenna that looks like it was made for an aircraft. The aircraft-like antenna is sold separately however, ARTEX support advised a DER would be needed to use it on the 345. That cost may override the cost of the 1000. So it is a send back and do what ARTEX likely hopes you would do - buy the higher cost unit.

February 16, 2018

Unit was defective out of the box, spoke with Artex tech support, they confirmed it needed to be sent back I elected to send back to AS and purchase a new one. AS said they had to send it back to Artex to troubleshoot, Artex now says there’s nothing wrong with it and it begins finger pointing between AS and Artex…AS is not wanting to do a refund for me. This has been going on for almost 3 months. I am very disappointed in both Artex and AS’s support on this…especially after buying a new ELT to get the plane back in the air. Third 345 that I have installed and the only one with an issue…buzzer was sounding constant when plug installed…confirmed constant voltage on 2 pins which indicates defective circuitry.

ARTEX ELT 345 406 USA WITH WHIP ANTENNA

December 29, 2021

Upon installation and testing the unit would turn on immediately upon plugging into the remote ELT switch. And once on would not turn off without opening and disconnecting the battery. Furthermore the IA bench checked the ‘G-shock’ turn on feature at it failed the check. We decided to return the product as we did not have faith in its life saving ability (it IS an ELT) and had great difficulties with both supplier and vendor to return. Not a fan.

The switch is apart of the TSO of the ELT so it is required to install regardless of aircraft type it is being installed in. In order to legally install, all parts must be installed even if it is an experimental aircraft.

Q: Does the 8130-3 Form included with the Artex ELT 345 complete new installation kit? If not, can we get it?

The 8130-3 export form is not included in the kit. It can be furnished, but you will need to request it in the shopping cart at checkout.

Q: What is the ELT Programming Method For Canadian registred aircraft. Serial# Aircraft, Aircraft registration or 24bit address of Aircraft. Is it a personal choice?

Canadian registered aircraft require ELT's to be programmed with the 24 bit, binary, aircraft registration number.

Q: The installation manual for the Artex ELT 345 refers to a 2-wire and a 5-wire installation. Is there an advantage to one over the other?

The 2 wire installation refers to the remote switch. This is what the ELT comes with for easier installation. The 5 wire installation is from older models.

Q: Can the Artex 345 get its GPS data from the Garmin GDL-82?

No, this cannot be done as the GDL 82 is not meant for that type of installation.

Q: What does the 24 bit address mean?

The 24 Bit address is an identification code that assigned to your aircraft by your aviation authority. The ELT can be programmed with this number for identification.

Q: How long is the whip antenna? I want to mount it under the vertical stabilizer fairing. Is that allowed?

The length on this antenna (8324) is 23.4". Refer to AMM of your aircraft for details on where to mount the antenna.

Q: The In The Box tab does not show the transmitter itself? I assume the overall transmitter is included?

Yes, the Artex ELT 345 is included.

Q: Does it come with the necessary documents for installation in the aircraft right away (Canada)? Or does it need to be certified when we receive it like it would be every 24 months?

While it comes with the necessary paperwork, you will still need to have it tested and certified post installation to ensure that the elt is in fact working.

Q: Can the 345 be used with the ME406 whip antenna?

The Artex 345 comes with it's own antenna that is TSO'D with the ELT kit. As such, the 345 must be used with it's own antenna.

Q: Can the Artex 345 unit get its GPS data from a MGL discovery lite IEFIS through one of the RS232 ports?

The Artex can receive GPS data from any RS-232 port, as long as it is operating at 9800 bauds.

Q: Can the antenna be installed inside the fuselage and does it matter if it is mounted upright, upside down, or horizontal?

The antenna needs to be installed upright, and is highly recommended to be mounted outside the fuselage and as aft of the nose as possible.

If the aircraft is fabric or fiberglass, with no metal airframe, then you can mount it inside the fuselage. Carbon fiber will not allow the antenna to transmit due to its conductive properties. If there is a metal airframe, you'll need to make sure that the antenna has a groundstrap connecting a screw to the airframe to ensure a solid ground connection.

Q: Is this Artex 345 unit compatible to a Garmin 660 that we have mounted with a instrumental panel flush adapter?

As long as you have the bare wire power data cable, you can use a rs-232 line to feed GPS data from the 660 to the Artex 345.

Q: Will the Artex 345 connect to a Garmin 796? What additional parts are required?
